SENIOR CONSULTANT / CONSULTANT [UTILITIES]

Our client is looking for an experienced Consultant or Senior Consultant to lead utility and infrastructure projects, providing strong client leadership, commercial oversight and effective delivery across complex project environments.

This opportunity could suit an experienced Consultant, Senior Consultant, Project Manager or similar professional with a background in utilities, infrastructure, construction or a related industry. The level of responsibility will depend on the successful candidate’s experience.

You’ll work closely with clients, technical teams, suppliers and operational stakeholders, taking ownership of project delivery, programme management, risk, commercial performance and stakeholder relationships. For more senior candidates, there may also be opportunities to oversee multiple projects, provide project assurance, mentor colleagues and contribute to wider business improvement initiatives.

The role is remote, with travel to client and project sites as required

• Lead utility and infrastructure projects from planning and mobilisation through to delivery and close-out.
• Develop project plans, delivery strategies, programmes and governance frameworks.
• Manage project budgets, forecasts, risks, issues, dependencies and changes.
• Maintain commercial and contractual control, protecting scope, costs and project margins.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, senior stakeholders, suppliers and delivery partners.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and ensure clear responsibilities, priorities and accountability.
• Monitor project performance and implement recovery plans where delivery moves off track.
• Maintain accurate project records, reporting, decisions, approvals and change documentation.
• Ensure appropriate technical, safety, quality, regulatory and contractual requirements are addressed.
• Oversee project handover, customer acceptance, completion and lessons learned.
• Support client account development, identify opportunities and contribute to proposals where appropriate.
• Coach and support coordinators and other project professionals, sharing knowledge and promoting consistent standards.
• For senior-level candidates, provide portfolio oversight, independent project assurance and leadership on complex or strategically important engagements

Requirements:

 
• Proven experience in project management, consultancy or programme delivery within utilities, infrastructure, construction or a closely related environment.
• Experience delivering projects within electricity, gas, water, multi-utility or similar infrastructure.
• Experience within ICP, DNO, IDNO, utility networks or comparable environments would be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of project planning, governance, commercial management, risk and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience managing budgets, forecasts, variations, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong client-facing communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to identify delivery risks, manage competing priorities and implement effective solutions.
• Relevant project management or professional qualifications, such as APM, PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent experience, would be beneficial.
• For Senior Consultant level, substantial experience leading complex projects or programmes, providing assurance and mentoring other professionals.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client and project sites as required.
• Must have the legal right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available.
