Location: Remote.

 

Cape Town (Hybrid) | Remote within South Africa considered.

 

Our client, based in Cape Town, is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join their growing technology team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI solutions, cloud-native applications and scalable backend systems. You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering innovative software, collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.

While the ideal candidate will be based in Cape Town and available to attend the office when required, remote candidates from across South Africa with the right skills are encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities:

 

    • Design, develop and deploy scalable, production-ready software solutions.
    • Build and integrate Agentic AI systems using technologies such as RAG, Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Large Language Models (LLMs).
    • Develop and maintain high-performance backend services using Python, FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
    • Design and manage cloud-native infrastructure using AWS and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
    • Lead data engineering initiatives, including ETL pipelines and data visualisation.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope and provide realistic delivery timelines.
    • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
    • Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews and technical best practices.
    • Mentor developers and promote high standards of software quality and delivery.

Requirements:

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
    • 5+ years’ experience in software development with a strong focus on Python.
    • Proven experience developing backend applications using FastAPI.
    • Experience building full-stack applications using React.
    • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and relational databases.
    • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
    • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
    • Solid understanding of software architecture, system design and scalable application development.
    • Experience working directly with business stakeholders and managing technical project delivery.
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
