Location: Remote (UK Based).

 

An established UK-based utilities and infrastructure business is seeking an experienced Head of Electrical to lead and develop its electrical function. 

The business provides specialist design, preparation and utility connection services across electricity, gas and water infrastructure, supporting construction and development projects throughout the UK. This is a key leadership appointment, with responsibility for ensuring the electrical function delivers safely, effectively and commercially.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical professional who combines strong technical credibility with project, commercial and people leadership. Applications from experienced Senior Electrical Project Managers who are ready to take the next step into functional leadership will also be considered.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Electrical Leadership & Delivery:

 

  • Lead and oversee the electrical function and project portfolio.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership across LV and HV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee projects from design and pre-construction through procurement, construction, testing, energisation and closeout.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and within agreed commercial parameters.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure appropriate resources, skills and subcontractor support are in place.
  • Develop effective processes, standards and controls to support consistent delivery.
  •  

Technical & Compliance:

 

  • Provide technical oversight and guidance across the electrical function.
  • Ensure electrical designs and works comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, DNO/IDNO requirements and client specifications.
  • Ensure appropriate competence, authorisation and supervision across the team.
  • Oversee technical reviews, testing, commissioning and energisation.
  • Resolve significant technical, quality and compliance issues.

Commercial & Project Management:

 

  • Review project budgets, estimates, programmes and delivery risks.
  • Monitor costs, margins, cash flow, variations and forecasts.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Finance to maintain financial control and protect project margins.
  • Support procurement, subcontractor management, change control and final accounts.
  • Ensure projects are effectively managed through to commercial closeout.

Customer & Stakeholder Management:

 

  • Act as a senior electrical point of contact for customers and key stakeholders.
  • Build effective relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, ICP partners, contractors, consultants and suppliers.
  • Support tenders, customer meetings and technical discussions.
  • Manage escalated technical and delivery matters effectively.

Leadership & People Development:

 

  • Lead, support and develop electrical project management and technical teams.
  • Set clear objectives, expectations and performance standards.
  • Identify recruitment, development and succession requirements.
  • Build a capable and scalable electrical function.
  • Develop technical and leadership capability within the team.
  • Work collaboratively with wider operational, commercial, design and pre-construction functions.

Health, Safety & Quality:

 

  • Provide visible leadership around health, safety and quality.
  • Ensure appropriate safe systems of work and project controls are implemented.
  • Ensure electrical activities are undertaken by competent and authorised personnel.
  • Review incidents, defects, non-conformances and audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Requirements:

 

  • Relevant electrical engineering, utilities, construction or project-delivery qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience within electricity distribution, utilities, ICP, DNO/IDNO, electrical contracting or a related environment.
  • Proven experience delivering LV and/or HV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical, commercial and project management experience.
  • Experience leading teams, subcontractors and multiple projects.
  • Strong customer and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven leadership and people-development experience.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
