COMMERCIAL MANAGER [SHIPPING]

 

Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

 

Our client based in Durban is looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance and efficiency of the sales team.

 

This role focuses on optimizing sales processes, providing training and support, and leveraging technology to drive revenue growth and achieve organizational sales objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

 

    • Support senior sales leadership by providing commercial insights and operational support to help achieve business objectives.
        • Monitor, review, and report on the performance and effectiveness of the sales team.
        • Evaluate, prioritise, and allocate sales leads in line with the company’s commercial strategy.
        • Assess customer qualification requests, approve or decline exceptions where appropriate, and maintain the accuracy of sales system records.
        • Manage sales territories, account ownership, and customer allocations, ensuring data remains accurate and up to date.
        • Monitor CRM and sales analytics data to improve reporting accuracy, maintain data integrity, and identify trends across customer interactions, sales activity, leads, opportunities, and pipeline performance.
        • Support the target-setting process by assisting with the development and validation of sales objectives across the business.
        • Train, coach, and monitor the adoption of sales processes, CRM systems, and commercial best practices across the sales team.
        • Participate in cross-functional commercial projects and business improvement initiatives led by head office.
        • Communicate updates, process changes, and strategic initiatives from head office to the sales team, ensuring clear understanding and effective implementation.
        • Coordinate and facilitate regular refresher training sessions to reinforce sales processes, systems, and operational standards.

       

     

Requirements:

 

                • Relevant tertiary qualification.
            • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the shipping, logistics, freight forwarding, supply chain, or related commercial industry, including proven leadership experience.
            • Demonstrated experience leading business improvement initiatives, project delivery, process optimisation, organisational transformation, continuous improvement, digital solutions, and customer experience enhancement and managing a team.
            • Strong working knowledge of CRM, ERP, and commercial management systems, with the ability to quickly adopt new business technologies.
            • Sound understanding of commercial operations, business processes, and cross-functional collaboration within a multinational or complex organisational environment.
            • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
            • Strong analytical capability with experience interpreting business data, producing reports, and using business intelligence or data visualisation tools.
            • Willingness and ability to travel across Southern Africa and other cross-border locations as required.
