PROCESS ENGINEER [AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING]
Location: Durban
Our client in Durban is looking for a Process Engineer to join their team. Candidates should have a background in maintenance, as well as process engineering.
The purpose of this new position is to provide engineering and technical support to the operations – through development and / or improving technical standard operating procedures, technical development and support to staff, improving plant optimisation, and improving both costs and operations.
The successful candidate will also ensure that all products are manufactured with utmost efficiency and quality, according to planned protocols using the appropriate technology
Responsibilities:
- Overall plant and machine optimisation.
- Develop and maintain technical standards.
- Provide technical training to staff.
- Plant improvements: costs and operations.
- Project management and scheduling.
- Industrialisation of new machinery and equipment.
- Process improvements based on Value Stream Mapping, Time Studies, Work Sampling, Statistical Methods and Root Cause Analysis.
- Application of lean methodologies.
- Operational improvement based upon feasibility studies, capacity planning, ergonomics and best practices.
- Design of manufacturing processes and facility layout.
- Assisting production with trouble shooting and problem solving related to (mechanical, quality and process etc.).
- Prepare work instructions, FMEA, control plans etc.
- Co-ordinate and track engineering changes.
- Conduct training for new process/product introduction.
- Lead operator training to improve skill levels.
- Work with maintenance to coordinate preventive and emergency maintenance.
- Ensure safe working procedures are followed.
- Ensure compliance with Management Systems requirements (IATF 16949, ISO 14001 etc.)
- Measuring and reporting on objectives and targets.
- Initiating of and participation in corrective, preventive and improvement projects.
- Signing-off of new equipment.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in steel / metal production. Preferably, a person who has worked in an automotive production environment
- Reasonable experience in Auto-CAD use
- Pneumatics and Hydraulics technology (PLC) knowledge
- Strong working knowledge of lean principles
- Good organisational and leadership skills
